Fayette school bus crash sends students to hospital

BECKLEY, W.Va. — Fayette County School Bus No. 98, carrying students from Valley High and Valley Middle schools, crashed on W.Va. 61 in Fayette County Wednesday afternoon, Fayette Emergency Operations dispatchers reported.

Several of the estimated 30 students on the bus were transported via Jan-Care ambulance to Montgomery General Hospital for minor injuries, Montgomery Fire Department Deputy Chief Benny Filiaggi reported.

Filiaggi added that no elementary school students were on the bus at the time of the crash, which occurred about 2:47 p.m.

“It looks like the bus actually went off the road and struck a pole and came back on,” said Filiaggi.

The front end of the bus was caved in, but the driver was uninjured, according to officials.

Students’ injuries were mainly cuts, scrapes and bruises, and some students had glass on them, he added…
