Ex-legislator Mark Hunt to run for attorney general

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Former Kanawha County legislator Mark Hunt said Wednesday he is running for state attorney general.

“West Virginia struggles with crime, the illegal drug trade and the abuse of our citizens by unscrupulous drug and insurance companies,” Hunt said in a video announcing his candidacy. “As attorney general I will be a tough watchdog on behalf of the families and small businesses of West Virginia.”

Hunt served as a Democrat in the House of Delegates for 14 years.

A personal injury lawyer, Hunt said he has represented more than 8,000 clients over the years, giving him experience he would use as attorney general.

“Those people have been in the type of cases that our attorney general should be looking at, defective products, defective drugs, the issues we have with the pill mills,” Hunt said in a phone interview. “Those are things I’ve been successful at over the last 22 years.
