HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – Congressman-elect Evan Jenkins was approved Thursday by the House Republican Steering Committee for a seat on the House Appropriations Committee, which is chaired by Rep. Hal Rogers, whose East Kentucky district borders Jenkins’.

Members of the Appropriations Committee play a role in shaping federal spending decisions. Of 40 newly-elected GOP House members, just two were chosen by the Steering Committee to serve on Appropriations. The Steering Committee’s selections will be ratified in December, and new committee members will begin serving January in the 114th Congress.

Jenkins will be the first southern West Virginian to serve on the House Appropriations Committee since the 1970s…
