CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — A muddy pit marks the future site of a new state office complex in Clarksburg.

Workers are making headway preparing the West Main Street site for the four-story, 84,000-square-foot facility, said Tony O’Leary, a spokesman for the state Department of Administration.

“The general contractor has moved his office trailer on site, and the excavation subcontractor has started excavation of the building footprint and is about 80 percent complete,” O’Leary said.

“In the next few weeks, the contractor will bring in a small drill rig to pre-drill some test holes, and then another drill rig will be brought to the site to begin drilling for foundation construction,” O’Leary added.

Mascaro Construction Co. of Pittsburgh is the general contractor.

The Department of Administration’s General Services Division issued a notice to proceed to the contractor on July 8, and preliminary site work started about a week later.

Clarksburg City Manager Martin Howe said there has been noticeable work taking place at the site.

“We have been very impressed with the progress the contractor has been making with the excavation phase of the project,” Howe said.

“The city will be preparing in the very near future to raze the two structures that were recently acquired along Washington Avenue that will be part of the state office complex campus,” Howe added.

The new office complex will go up at the site of the former state office building, which was razed in 2012.

Once a hotel, the former office building had been scheduled for either demolition or renovation since closing in 2002.

The new building’s tenants will include the Division of Motor Vehicles, Department of Health and Human Resources, Division of Rehabilitation Services, WorkForce West Virginia, Auditor’s Office and the Tax Department…
