Children found living among pigs in Moundsville

MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. — Police responding to a Child Protective Services call reportedly found a family living among pigs in Moundsville, prompting the removal of several children from the home.

After being referred to the case by CPS Friday afternoon, Marshall County deputies responded to a home on Gooseman Lane to investigate. Four children were removed from the home, ages 7, 5, 4, and 2.

Their father, Allen Tukesbrey, 54, was charged with misdemeanor child neglect creating risk of injury.

Upon entering the home, deputies and agents reportedly observed three children, two of them naked and all of them dirty and unkempt. A parent at the scene said they had just left the bath and had yet to get dressed, but officers noted that they appeared to have not bathed recently.

Upon receiving permission to enter, officers encountered an overwhelming odor of feces and observed several pigs running loose in the house. The pig feces was on several floors and the children’s mattresses, according to investigators.

The children reportedly had been sleeping on a couch. In addition, exposed wiring was found at numerous points through the home, including several in the children’s room, according to investigators.

“It’s just a disgusting, horrible mess,” Marshall County Sheriff Kevin Cecil said.

The children’s mother reportedly told police some of the feces in the home was from numerous dogs they had owned, which had recently been removed from the home.

Tukesbrey allegedly told investigators that he works long hours and is tired when he gets home, and assured officers that he would work to clean and repair the damage. He posted $3,500 bond and was released Monday.
