Capito to chair EPA oversight subcommittee

BLUEFIELD, W.Va. —  A West Virginia lawmaker will soon have a powerful say when it comes to the controversial Environmental Protection Agency rules targeting coal-fired power plants.

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla, chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, announced Thursday that U.S. Sen. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., will serve as the chairman of the Clean Air and Nuclear Safety Subcommittee. The subcommittee oversees EPA regulations established under the Clean Air Act, including rules to curb carbon emissions from coal-fired power plants. Capito said the position puts her in a strong position to fight the EPA and to support West Virginia coal.
