MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Lt. Alvaro Porras, Morgantown commander for the Salvation Army, sees a lot of presidential portraits this time of year.
The faces of Washington, Lincoln and Hamilton, which adorn the $1, $5 and $10 bills, are all familiar.
On Monday, he got his first look at Grover Cleveland, and his reaction was one word.
“Awesome, ” he said, as he looked at the $1,000 bill that bears Cleveland’s portrait.
Porras was looking through the donation kettle at the Giant Eagle at University Town Centre on Monday afternoon after receiving a tip that the large annual donation from an anonymous family had been dropped off earlier in the day. It’s a tradition that has been ongoing since at least 1978.
