Fundraiser to aid Beckley sports writer

BECKLEY, W.Va. — A benefit night will be held Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Beckley Galleria Chick-fil-A for sports writer Gary Fauber, who continues recovering from December brain surgery.

Community members are hosting this fund raiser to help with his medical expenses. Fauber was diagnosed with a mass on his brain stem on Christmas Eve and underwent brain surgery on New Year’s Eve. Recovering now at home, he will need to go through physical therapy, and is still having issues with his sight and balance.

As a sports writer for The Register-Herald for many years, Fauber has helped numerous athletes receive recognition across the state.

A corn hole tournament held Jan. 9 raised $1,000 and a GOFUNDME account has been set up on Fauber’s behalf.
