CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Matt Harvey, who has served in various roles over the past 19 years at The Exponent Telegram, has been promoted to managing editor.

In making the announcement, NCWV Media President and Owner Brian Jarvis pointed to Harvey’s dedication and work ethic during his tenure.

“Matt has been a key part of our success,” Jarvis said. “We look forward to his continued contributions.”

Harvey will continue to provide coverage of the legal system while training others as The Exponent Telegram expands its coverage of that topic, as well as others of interest to the media company’s growing audience.

Harvey also will have oversight of news and sports reporters as The Exponent Telegram expands its reach throughout North Central West Virginia.

“Matt has been a trusted co-worker and friend since his arrival almost 20 years ago,” Executive Editor John G. Miller said. “He’s a great writer, wordsmith and will continue to provide mentoring to our developing staff.”

Publisher Andy Kniceley said Harvey is well known among journalists and The Exponent Telegram’s audience for quality journalism.

“Ever since we hired Matt Harvey from the AP to join The Exponent Telegram in 1997, his expertise, news judgement and quality journalism has established him as the state’s leading court reporter. In addition, his contributions as assistant managing editor have been invaluable in training and nurturing new reporters,” Kniceley said.

“The promotion to managing editor now gives us an opportunity to utilize his extensive sports knowledge to expand our coverage in print, digital and social media.”

Miller said Harvey’s expanded role will serve NCWV Media’s growing list of publications and websites well.

“As we expand products and audience, Matt’s role to provide oversight and leadership is critical to our growth plans,” Miller said. “His background at The Associated Press, as well as newspapers in Ohio and Arizona will lend greatly to our efforts.”

Harvey, a native of Ohio and graduate of The Ohio State University, is an adopted Mountaineer who married a North Central West Virginian. They moved to the region about 20 years ago and have raised their two sons here.
