NCWV Media now publishing The State Journal

CLARKSBURG, W.Va.  — The State Journal will welcome the winter season as part of the NCWV Media family, which adds an extensive increase in resources to the state’s only business newspaper.

NCWV Media, which already produces The Exponent TelegramThe Fairmont NewsThe Weston NewsThe Bridgeport News, the Preston News and Journal and NCWV Life magazine, has been printing The State Journal since 2003.

Distribution of The State Journal is expected to double in the coming year, but the content will not change. The State Journal’s mission will continue blazing the path created in 1984 when brothers Robert C. and Henry E. Payne III and Fred F. Holroyd saw the need to spotlight successes and solutions for West Virginia’s business community.

“West Virginia businessmen are married to West Virginia whether they like it or not,” Robert Payne wrote in the inaugural edition. “Where you are is the source of your well-being. And, frankly, my well-being isn’t well enough.”

When The State Journal became part of West Virginia Media Holdings in November 2001, its former owner and publisher, the late Lorenelle White, said the opportunities that would come from “being part of a growing statewide media network will only come back to benefit the paper and, we hope, the state in turn.”

WVMH CEO and owner Bray Cary said he has similar feelings about this new relationship for The State Journal and is eager to see the growth that will come from the expertise and resources NCWV Media can provide. Cary will assume a minority partnership role going forward.

NCWV Media is known for its independent journalism and for serving its communities. Its owner, Brian Jarvis, grew up watching his late father work as an attorney and newspaper executive, and his own background in tax law lends an especially tuned eye to the need for The State Journal’s niche.

“We know The State Journal is an incredibly well-respected publication, and when we saw the opportunity to publish it and amplify that voice of reason they represent for the entire state’s business, legal and political communities, we jumped at the chance,” Jarvis said. “We’re looking forward to applying our successful strategies of marrying excellence and integrity with the innovation of digital media.”
