Logan political candidate beaten, family says

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Logan County man running for state office was attacked at a political event Sunday morning, according to his family.

Kelly Ojeda said her husband Richard Ojeda was bent over placing a bumper sticker on the back of a car for someone when he was hit in the head from behind.

He was knocked unconscious and continuously beaten with brass knuckles, she said.

“My husband just had a stroke last week. I think that’s why he intentionally directed every blow to his head,” Kelly Ojeda said.

Rich Ojeda was taken to Logan Regional Hospital and then flown to CAMC General, according to his wife.

A nurse at CAMC confirmed the hospital had a patient with Ojeda’s name.

A trooper with the West Virginia State Police say he could not release information about the incident Sunday afternoon.
