Fayette board sees constant stream of transfers

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va. — Concern about academics, discussions about facilities and pleas for citizens to put aside personal agendas and work together have all become commonplace at Fayette County Board of Education meetings.

Approving a constant stream of student transfer requests has also become a monthly occurrence.

At Monday’s meeting the board approved the release of six students to attend Raleigh County Schools and three to attend Nicholas.

Attendance Director Judy Lively estimates the district is losing around 150 students a year due to outmigration, students transferring to other counties and students moving to homeschooling or private schools…
